Embracing Gratitude: A 2023 Year-End Reflection

As the year draws to a close, one might feel overwhelmed by bad news. It can be easy to forget that every new day brings with it new opportunities. To quote Matt Johnson of the old British Band The-The: If you can’t change the world, change yourself, and if you can’t change yourself, change your world. (From the song “Lonely Planet”. Worth a re-listen.)

Perhaps we can’t instantly change ourselves, but we can change our perspective, and for the moment, for our final blog of the year, we want to focus on gratitude.

We are grateful to the filmmakers here at New Day who are committed to truth. Grateful for their considerable efforts to gather the resources and individuals necessary to bring vital, untold stories to the screen.

We are grateful to the subjects of those same films, everyday people who are willing to share their stories in a larger forum, that such expression of vulnerability might change the world.

And we are grateful most of all to you, our film viewers, because without a viewing audience, every film would be an incomplete dream.

We invite you to join us in reflecting on your own gratitude, that it may fill you with purpose and strength as we face a new year sure to be filled with new challenges, but surely too, with more things for which to be thankful.
