Heather is an award-winning filmmaker and photographer whose two-decade career focuses on fearless, human-centered storytelling and art-driven explorations of equity, belief, and resilience.
With a career spanning over two decades, Heather has emerged as a fearless voice in the world of filmmaking, photography, and cultural activism. Known for her award-winning documentaries, including Nasima - a stirring portrait of resilience—and In the Shadow of Buddha – about the lives of Tibetan Buddhist nuns, she consistently brings to light untold stories that challenge and inspire audiences globally. It is in the delicate reclamation of voices that ask to be heard, insist on their place, and find resonance in and through her work.
The feature film Nasima had its world premiere in Prague and its U.S. debut at the prestigious Santa Barbara International Film Festival. The documentary has received critical acclaim and earned accolades worldwide. The film was awarded Best Documentary at the Atlanta DocuFest, at the Toronto International Women Film Festival, and was a finalist at the World of Women Film Festival in Dubai.
As a dedicated advocate, she has led initiatives for groups such as United Against Gun Violence alongside Nobel Peace Laureates, and she has been a founding member of organizations that promote adaptive sports and the arts. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Philosophy, and she continues to push creative boundaries while supporting causes related to her work.
Her work is centered on exploration, art-driven activism, and human-centered storytelling, particularly emphasizing the experiences and narratives of women and girls. Her creative projects address issues of equity and education, often weaving in themes of spirit, belief, and religion. Yet beyond any specific project lies a deep yearning to connect humanity’s hidden threads, revealing its shared, untended truths to the world. A successful project is when the completion of each story is not an end, but a beginning, and lives as a testament that the untold stories hum with life, opening minds and hearts, each with its own call to action.
