Willow O’Feral is a documentary filmmaker currently based in Vermont. Break the Silence: Reproductive & Sexual Health Stories is her debut feature film. She is also co-directing/producing Arming Sisters, a documentary about Native American women fighting to restore tribal sovereignty in order to end the rape of Indigenous women in the US, which was recently awarded a Vision Maker Media grant. Willow was honored with the 2018 Choice Champion Award by Planned Parenthood of New England for her work creating Break the Silence, and she was a Fledgling Fellow at the 2018 DX Investigative Film Festival in Washington DC.
Willow’s impetus to create Break the Silence: Reproductive & Sexual Health Stories came out of her conversations around advancing reproductive justice with the Women's Action Team, a feminist collective that Willow helped to found in Vermont in 2016. She is also the co-founder of Haptic Pictures, a production company producing beautiful original content around pressing issues of social justice, and a member of New Day Films, the longest running distribution cooperative for independent documentary filmmakers. Willow has also worked on several independent feature narrative films as 2nd Unit Cinematographer, Stills Photographer, and in the Art Department, and co-directed the short-form documentary Mike Seeler: Biohacker, for BRIC Media in NY. Willow holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Film/Video and French from Marlboro College. She loves community organizing and collaborative work, and has mentored youth in the Movies From Marlboro program, Reel Works in Brooklyn NY, and at In-Sight Photography Project in Brattleboro VT. She grew up on the coast of Northern California and loves documentary filmmaking because it is rooted in curiosity and empathy - which are two of her favorite things.
