Join us for this engaging conversation on "New Perspectives on Asian and Muslim Identity in America.” We'll hear from Sofian Khan, producer of "An Act of Worship," and Julie Mallozzi, director of "Monkey Dance" and "Once Removed". These filmmakers will discuss their work and how it examines different facets of Asian American and Muslim American identity. Join us for this engaging conversation on “The Power of Advocacy in Film” with Melody C. Miller, director of California’s Forgotten Children, Maggie Burnette Stogner, director of Upstream Downriver, and Dr. Angela J. Aguayo, Associate Professor of Media & Cinema Studies; Acting Director of the Roger Ebert Center for Film Studies at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. The conversation will be moderated by Chithra Jeyaram, director of Foreign Puzzle.

We'll learn from the filmmakers about how their documentary films have been used as tools in fighting child trafficking and advocating for water equity and climate justice. We'll also discuss why film is an effective medium for affecting policy change. How can you utilize films to influence policy makers and stakeholders? Join us for this important conversation on “Dismantling Myths About Race” through film with filmmakers, T. Geronimo Johnson and Josh Aaseng (Manifest Destiny Jesus), Jon Osaki (Not Your Model Minority), and Dr. Candice Robinson, Assistant Professor of Sociology at University of North Carolina, Wilmington. We’ll examine myths about Blacks, Asians and a White Jesus as well as reflect on the societal impact of perpetuating false perceptions about race. We'll discuss the films Manifest Destiny Jesus , which examines how portraying Jesus as white has reinforced cultural divides and Not Your Model Minority, whichshows how the Asian model minority myth has been used to create a wedge between communities of color.
