26 Oct - New Day 55th Anniversary

A montage of nine New Day Films posters and catalogue covers from 1971 through the 2000s, and one black and white photo of the founders: Liane Brandon, Jim Klein, Julia Reichert, and Amalie Rothschild. They pose for the camera, smiling, with their arms around each other’s shoulders.

When the four of us founded New Day in 1971, we believed that reaching our audiences was a political act - as much as the act of making films.

We still do.

A note from Liane Brandon, Amalie Rothschild, Jim Klein, and Julia Reichert (posthumously) • Founders @ New Day Films

We believed in filmmakers controlling their own work, in collective decision making, in sharing our knowledge, and in using film for social change.

Almost 500 films, 55 years, and several generations of filmmakers later, New Day has been able to survive and thrive, adapt to changing technology, and preserve our vision of social justice, collective work and integrity. This is truly humbling and amazing. We could not be prouder.
