Mabel Valdiviezo

Mabel Valdiviezo is an award-winning Latine filmmaker and editor whose documentary work explores migration, gender equity, healing and environmental justice. Her feature documentary Prodigal Daughter earned a 2026 Cinema Tropical Best Latinx USA Film nomination, won Best Documentary at the Arizona International Film Festival, and was nominated for Best Documentary at the New Filmmakers New Fest and APRECI (Peru).
Mabel Valdiviezo is an award-winning Latine filmmaker and editor whose work explores migration, gender equality, healing and environmental justice. Her work has been supported by IDA, BAVC, AXS Film Fund, and The Gotham Documentary Lab. Valdiviezo’s directing & producing credits include Prodigal Daughter (LALIFF), Carlos Baron, Poeta Pan, (PBS/KQED), and Soledad is Gone Forever, (LALIFF). As an editor, she has crafted the documentaries We Arrive with Fire, Following Pal, River Webs and Women with Altitude. Valdiviezo’s feature documentary Prodigal Daughter garnered a Cinema Tropical Best Latinx USA nomination, won Best Documentary at the Arizona International Film Festival, the Audience Award at the Festival de Cine Peruano in Madrid, and received nominations at New Filmmakers New Fest and APRECI (Peru). She is a member of IDA, BGDM, UFC, FWD‑Doc, BAVC, and NALIP, and her practice spans across visual art, performance, installation, and interactive technology.
