Shaleece Haas
Shaleece Haas is a documentary filmmaker and radio journalist specializing in stories about aging. She has reported on elder suicide and dementia treatment and is currently working on a story about Alaska Native elders and long term care for the Alaska Public Radio Network.
Old People Driving is Shaleece’s first documentary film. It has screened at film festivals across the country, won a handful of awards and, most importantly, made her grandfather (one of the film’s characters) a minor celebrity.
Shaleece came to filmmaking through her work as a photojournalist. Her images have appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show and in magazines including Marie Claire, Utne Reader, and Ms. Magazine. While living in New York City, she also had the privilege of listening to hundreds of life stories through her work for the national oral history project, StoryCorps.
Shaleece is a graduate of Smith College and the documentary film program at UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism. She currently resides in Oakland, California.
