Kathy Berger was trained as a lawyer and worked in labor law for a few years. She began her video work after an internship at the Chicago Bureau of CNN. Since that time she has worked on numerous educational and documentary videos, in various capacities as assistant director, producer, research assistant, etc. Her first truly independent video was The Garifuna Journey. This video was made in partnership with Andrea Leland and has won numerous awards. Andrea Leland and Kathy Berger formed Leland/Berger Productions subsequent to the release of The Garifuna Journey. They are currently working on a follow-up video that will focus on traditional healing in the rain forests of Belize. They are also working with high-school students in the production of a video called Deep Roots -n- Culture. This video will focus on the experiences of students from the Caribbean who are now living in the United States.
