WHAT IF I WANT TO VIEW A PREVIEW TO CONSIDER A FILM FOR A FILM FESTIVAL? CAN I GET A SCREENING COPY?

Write to the curator and she will connect you to the individual filmmaker for this information.

WHAT IS THE LENGTH OF A FILM RENTAL PERIOD?

The rental is for a one-time classroom showing. If you let us know the date you plan to show the video at least 2 weeks in advance, we will have it there a day or two before hand. You are responsible for returning the video to us the day after the showing.

IF WE RENT A VIDEO AND THEN DECIDE THAT WE WOULD LIKE TO PURCHASE IT, CAN THE RENTAL COST BE APPLIED TO THE PURCHASE PRICE?

The rental cost is deducted from the purchase price if the video is
purchased within 60 days.

WHY ARE THE VIDEOS SO EXPENSIVE?

The programs in our catalog are purchased and used primarily by educational and other institutions and sell in relatively small numbers. To make back the significant production costs, and to help support our future independent filmmaking, we must charge a higher price per title. Our prices are similar to those of other comparable educational distributors. The higher cost also includes educational rights, which are more extensive than those granted with home video sales.

DO YOU HAVE DIFFERENT PRICES FOR NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS?

Yes. All of our films have a special non profit price.

WHO QUALIFIES FOR THIS?

If you are purchasing through a college, university or a hospital, you would have to pay the institutional price. If you are a public library or a non-profit organization, you qualify for the discounted rate. This special rate is also available for elementary, middle and high school purchases for both public and private schools.

CAN I BUY THE VIDEO AS AN INDIVIDUAL?

Most filmmakers do have their own home video price and policy. Please write to the curator about the specific title you are interested in, and your email will be forwarded to the individual filmmaker. If you buy a tape at the individual rate it is for home use only. You will not be allowed to show it publicly, in the classroom, or any institution. Please respect this policy.

I AM A STUDENT AND WOULD LIKE TO USE ONE OF YOUR FILMS FOR A RESEARCH PROJECT. CAN I RENT AN INDIVIDUAL COPY?

Yes. In most instances, filmmakers will rent a copy to individuals. Please write to the curator and she will put you in touch with the filmmaker. Again, please respect our policy and don't take advantage of this special student discount if you are planning on using the film in your classroom.

DO YOU GIVE COMPLETION FUNDS?

No. New Day Films only considers films once they are completed.

ARE YOU INTERESTED IN FEATURE LENGTH NARRATIVE FILMS?

No.

I HAVE A FILM IDEA. CAN I SEND MY IDEA TO YOU?

If you have an idea for a film, you already have funding secured, and are looking for someone to help you make the film, then your request will be forwarded to the whole co-op. However, if you don't yet have financial support, we will not be able to respond to your ideas. We wish you lots of luck and let us know when the film gets completed!

WILL YOU ACCEPT SHORTS? SERIES?

Yes, we will consider films of any length. However, films under an hour are best used in the classroom.

DOES YOUR COMPANY OFFER ANY JOBS?

No. As a co-op, New Day Films does not have any employees.

CAN I JOIN NEW DAY IF I LIVE OUTSIDE OF THE US?

We have never accepted a filmmaker from outside of the US. Many films produced overseas do not have strong educational marketing potential in the US. Members must be able to participate in New Day meetings and complete on-going tasks, which can be difficult for people living overseas. If you are interested in marketing your film to the US educational market, feel there is a potential market here, and feel that you can participate fully as a New Day member, please contact the curator.

DO YOU MARKET OVERSEAS?

No. As its policy, New Day Films only markets in the US.

CAN I BUY YOUR FILMS IF I LIVE OUTSIDE THE US? ARE YOUR FILMS AVAILABLE IN OTHER FORMATS?

Yes. If you are interested in a particular title, please contact the
curator. She will direct you to the specific filmmaker and you can work out an arrangement.

WOULD YOU SEND ME A CATALOGUE IF I LIVE OUTSIDE THE US?

If you are an interested institutional buyer, please write to the curator and we can make an exception.
